The Gonzen is an imposing rock wall towering above Sargans Sargans. Iron ore was discovered there about 2,000 years ago and mined over a long period of time. The mine consists of a labyrinth of almost 90 km of tunnels and passages. Since 1983 a small part of the mine is open for viewing. Various guided tours are offered from a short train ride into the mine to a 2-day tour including a night spent in the mountain. Early booking is essential! Today it is possible to experience the world underground on an impressive excursion into the heart of the mountain.
