St. Gallen

UNESCO World Heritage site and university city with a history of textile industry.

The metropolis of St.Gallen in eastern Switzerland has a rich history. Its name and foundation date back to the establishment of the monastery by the itinerant monk Gallus in the year 612. You will encounter the past at every step of a stroll through the enchanting Old Town with its world-famous oriel windows, quaint narrow streets and lively squares lined with welcoming street cafés. The rich past provides impetus for a thriving present and St.Gallen is a modern and cosmopolitan city today. The imposing Baroque cathedral, the heart of the Abbey District, presides over the city and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
